Sally Lush, Curator of the Harbourview Sculpture Trail 2016
Sally Lush is an independent exhibition curator, Gallery Manager and practicing artist with a broad experience in the arts sector gained from 20 years managing art galleries and art projects in the Auckland area.
In 1993 Lush established Art by the Sea and in 1999 Art Of This World – both galleries in Devonport, Auckland – selling a wide range of unique art by emerging and established New Zealand artists. She became proficient at understanding the commercial aspects of the art sector, critiquing artworks and promoting upcoming artists. In 2007 she sold her interest inArt Of This World to pursue her own personal art interests.
Lush project managed the establishment of the Kaipara Coast Sculpture Gardens (2008) and has curated their annual exhibitions since then. She project managed and curated the establishment of the inaugural Harbourview Sculpture Trail in 2012, as well as curating its successful second season in 2014. She also curates the annual 2015 and 2016 White Night Parnell event featuring art and interactions on the streets of Parnell for one night as part of Auckland Arts Festival.
Lush has developed and implemented all aspects of various exhibition projects, curating over 60 exhibitions, fostering strong relationships with artists and the public to inspire others to reach towards their artistic goals.
Lush’s own art practice has seen her work exploring the transformation of everyday utilitarian objects into beautiful art pieces . She has exhibited and sold at The Govett Brewster Gallery, Waitakaruru Sculpture Park, Kaipara Coast Sculpture Gardens, Shapeshifter, The New Dowse, Art Of This World, Harbourview Sculpture Trail, Mairangi Arts Centre, Auckland Easter Show, Hilton Art Show, Satellite Gallery, The Depot, Lava Glass, Thornton Gallery, Between Tides, Carmel College, Estuary Arts Centre, Kings College Art Sale and the Sydney Affordable Art Show.
